Born Alicia Augello Cook on January 25, 1981, in the vibrant neighborhood of Hell's Kitchen, Manhattan, New York City, Alicia Keys was raised by her mother, Teresa Augello, a paralegal and part-time actress. Her father, Craig Cook, a flight attendant, departed from her life when she was just two years old. Embracing her multicultural heritage—African American from her father's side and Italian, Irish, and Scottish from her mother's—Keys found solace and expression in music from a young age. She began classical piano training at seven, delving into the works of Beethoven, Mozart, and her favorite, Chopin. By 12, she was composing her own songs, and at 16, she graduated as valedictorian from Manhattan’s Professional Performing Arts School. Although she briefly enrolled at Columbia University, her passion for music led her to pursue it full-time. Initially signing with Columbia Records, she eventually found her musical home with Clive Davis at J Records, setting the stage for her illustrious career.

Each episode features meaningful conversations with inspiring guests, including podcaster Justin Frett, blogger Darren Graham, creator Kiana Leroux with her 5-year-old daughter Soleil, and culminates with Keys interviewing her stepson Nasir Dean in celebration of Mother's Day. 

Personal Life and Advocacy

Alicia Keys is married to producer Swizz Beatz (Kasseem Dean) since 2010, and together they have two sons, Egypt Daoud and Genesis Ali. She is also a stepmother to Beatz's three children from previous relationships. Keys has been open about the dynamics of her blended family, emphasizing love and unity.
